- 02:50 variety of woes unleashed on the planet.
- 02:56 Biblical people have been thrown up against turbulent times

- 04:23 Then there's another messenger that comes, blows the trumpet,
- 04:25 and another set of cataclysmic events.
- 04:29 In verse 8, "The trumpet sounds, and something like a huge
- 04:34 mountain ablaze with fire was thrown into the sea."
- 04:38 Now, I should just say that, not long before this, Vesuvius
- 04:41 exploded in another part of the Mediterranean world, and so

- 05:05 We're looking here at plagues that are unleashed.
- 05:08 It's not a good story.
- 05:10 And like I said at the outset, people wanna hear good news when
- 05:13 they turn our way, but there are plagues falling here now.
- 05:18 Good news is coming, but we're not there yet, and I don't wanna

- 06:09 drink it.
- 06:11 And then we're told the sun and the moon and stars were struck,
- 06:15 and there's a lack of shining, and there's night.
- 06:19 Again, we're looking at upheavals of cosmic proportions.
- 06:24 I don't know what sets these sorts of things in motion.

- 06:33 In any case, if I try and hear this from the perspective of a

- 06:41 There are antecedents to this in ancient literature that give

- 09:02 angel, there's something that is profoundly significant.
- 09:06 In chapter 9, we're told it was another angel in verse 13, who
- 09:11 has a vision and a word to release these hordes.
- 09:16 Here, I'll read the text, and then I want you to see it on
- 09:19 the map.
- 09:21 In verse 14, "The sixth angel is told, 'Release the four angels
- 09:24 who are bound at the great river Euphrates.'"
- 09:27 Here's the river Euphrates, and I should mention that in
- 09:30 antiquity, this area right here was a marker, a boundary marker.
- 09:35 The Roman Empire extended out to here.
- 09:39 The word "barbarian" means "non-Greek" or, in effect,
- 09:42 "non-Roman," and refers to those on the other side, the heathen,
- 09:46 the hordes, the masses.
- 09:48 The first readers of Revelation, the first hearers of it would've
- 09:53 understood that there are these forces bound up at the river
- 09:58 Euphrates, but then what's going to happen is they're gonna be
- 10:02 unleashed, and they are gonna flood into the region--
- 10:06 [blowing] And where are they headed?

- 10:32 No, but it's off the charts, and he's giving this enormous
- 10:35 number, and he's saying, "Look, I heard it.
- 10:37 What do you want me to do?"
- 10:38 There wasn't even a way to write it.
- 10:39 He had to do the best that he could with it.
- 10:41 This force that was marshaled that [blowing] sweeps into
- 10:45 the region, people have wondered what that might be.
- 10:50 You know, this is the natural land bridge from Asia into
- 10:53 this world.
- 10:55 The question is who has a force like this,
- 10:57 or what kind of nations could be amalgamated to fly under one
- 11:02 banner to invest this kind of energy to come into the region?
- 11:06 But they're coming, we're told.
- 11:08 Let's back up for a second in the 9th chapter and give voice
- 11:13 to the fact that this author sees the world at the ragged

- 11:42 There's antecedents to this in the literature.
- 11:45 Ezekiel sees similarly a nation that's brought back at the
- 11:50 ragged edge of time.
- 11:52 A fledgling nation state, Israel comes into its own, and Israel's
- 11:57 coming into its own invokes the ires of the powers that be, and
- 12:02 these energies are generated to come and annihilate this
- 12:07 fledgling state.
- 12:09 We're seeing vestiges.

- 12:15 We're told in verse 18--and I'm still in the 9th chapter--that,
- 12:18 as a result of all described so far, we're told that "A third of

- 21:24 Lamb of God harks to the Passover story.
- 21:26 They were in slavery, but that spotless lamb was killed.
- 21:30 The blood was applied, and they were set free from Egypt.
- 21:32 You could be in slavery and sin and bondage in some
- 21:35 way yourself.
- 21:36 That's the bad news.
- 21:38 The good news is that God has provided a Lamb.
- 21:40 Revelation speaks to the Lamb and the blood of the Lamb and
- 21:43 saying how worthy that Lamb is, and this is just symbolic
- 21:46 language that speaks to, for, and about Jesus, whom Hebrews

- 25:07 Jeffrey: Yeah, among other things, yeah.

- 25:16 Did it kill a third of the earth?
- 25:18 Could it be different times throughout history that

- 25:49 came back from the east, brought back by Roman soldiers.
