- 04:04 nations in the world.
- 04:07 The empire grows and flourishes as it never has before, but this

- 04:14 The death of King Solomon in 926 BC brings about troubled times.

- 04:24 and go.
- 04:26 Foreign kingdoms march toward Jerusalem, burning and pillaging
- 04:29 as they ultimately enter the gates of the holy city.
- 04:36 It's at some point during this turbulent period that the ark of
- 04:40 the covenant disappears from the pages of the Bible.
- 04:54 In 586 BC, Jerusalem and the temple are completely destroyed
- 04:59 by the armies of King Nebuchadnezzar.

- 10:10 nearly all of them having to do with its disappearance.
- 10:14 To review, we know that it was first placed into Solomon's
- 10:17 Temple in 950 BC.
- 10:20 It remains there for some 365 years before that temple is
- 10:23 destroyed and plundered by the Babylonians in 586 BC.
- 10:28 There's little reference made to the ark during this period.
- 10:32 It's during the reign of King Josiah in 622 BC that we read
- 10:36 about it for the last time.
- 10:38 So what happened to this most valuable treasure in history?
- 10:42 Let's look at some of the theories.
- 10:47 narrator: Shortly after King Solomon's death, Jerusalem is
- 10:49 besieged by the Egyptian pharaoh, Shishak, and he took
- 10:54 away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures
- 10:58 of the king's house.
- 11:00 No one is sure what these temple treasures consisted of, although
- 11:04 Hollywood moguls have garnered fortunes of their own based on
- 11:07 the notion that the treasures included the ark of
- 11:09 the covenant.
- 11:14 In the year 1099, the crusaders marched into Jerusalem,
- 11:19 converting the Islamic Dome of the Rock into a cathedral that
- 11:24 would serve as their headquarters within the
- 11:27 Holy Land.
- 11:29 Some believe that the Knights Templar excavated underground

- 11:36 temple treasures.
- 11:37 This theory has the Knights finding the ark and the
- 11:40 treasures, then whisking them away to southern France.
- 11:43 One of the more popular theories suggest that King Solomon had a
- 11:47 son by the visiting Ethiopian queen of Sheba.
- 11:50 At the age of 19, this son, Menelik, becomes the king of
- 11:54 Sheba and has the ark removed from Solomon's Temple, taking it

- 24:14 Jeffrey: Yes.
- 24:16 Kirsten: But then, as believers, aren't we taught that our body
- 24:17 is now the temple of the Holy Spirit, there's not a need
- 24:22 for an ark.
- 24:23 He resides within us.
- 24:25 Jeffrey: Yes.
- 24:26 Kirsten: Yes and yes, for both?
- 24:28 Jeffrey: Yes and yes.
- 24:29 Kirsten: So there's still a quest for it but then we know
- 24:31 that, you know, God's Spirit that was residing right there--
- 24:34 Jeffrey: I mean, Rabbi Paul uses the expression, "The body is
- 24:36 the temple of the Holy Spirit," and rightly so, to underscore
- 24:40 that the Holy Spirit dwells within us.
- 24:43 Even with that said, there are predictions, in biblical
- 24:46 literature, about the physical plant being rebuilt and
- 24:51 things being restored there.
- 24:53 Some could call it a contradiction, but that works
