Series: “In The Footsteps of The Rabbi From Tarsus (2020)”
This series sheds light on the Apostle Paul, his movements, and his message. Dr. Jeffrey Seif follows in Paul’s footsteps all around the ancient Roman Empire and analyzes his divinely inspired letters to early Church congregations, preserved in the New Testament.
Dr. Seif gives us background on Shaul (Paul) beginning with his persecution of the early church, his conversion on the road to Damascus and then the events leading up to his first missionary journey.
Barnabas calls for Paul to join him in Antioch, then the two set out westward on the first missionary journey. Paul’s powerful preaching leads Jews and many Gentiles to come to faith in the Messiah.
Paul returns to Asia Minor and goes on to Athens, where he preaches his famous Mars Hill sermon. On his third missionary journey, Paul goes to riotous Ephesus and then back to Jerusalem where trouble finds him.
Paul’s legal troubles land him in stormy waters where he is shipwrecked at Malta. His appeal leads to a prison cell in Rome, but it cannot contain Paul’s desire to share the Gospel during the final years of his life.
In Ephesus, Jeff looks at the first New Testament book written by Paul — to the Galatians in defense of including non-Jewish believers. Paul writes a loving letter from Athens to the suffering church in Thessalonica.
At the ruins of Corinth, Jeff reviews Paul’s letter to shore up the struggling church that he started there. His second letter included encouragement to support Corinth’s Jewish Believers. Paul’s letter to the church in Rome addressed its division between Jewish and gentile Believers.
Paul wrote many letters from his Roman prison cell. To the Colossians, he wrote of reconciliation. To the Ephesians, how God had built a new house for all Believers. The Philippians received a friendly thank you for their help and encouragement for their growth.
Paul asked Timothy to stay in Ephesus to build up the leadership in that church. In his letter to Titus, Paul sought to bring stability to the congregations Titus shepherded in Crete. Paul’s second letter to Timothy was his last. In it, he encouraged Believers to be strong and finish well.
