• 00:09 In this program, an 80-year-old man is called by God to bring
• 00:12 his people out of bondage, today on "Divine on Deliverance."
• 00:21 male announcer: From the beginning, our Creator revealed
• 00:24 his will to the common man.
• 00:27 Individuals listened to his call and responded in obedience.
• 00:31 From the first Hebrew Avraham to the culmination of salvation
• 00:36 in Messiah himself, the Lord faithfully intervenes
• 00:41 with his divine deliverance.
• 00:53 David Hart: Thank you for joining us today,
• 00:55 I'm David Hart.
• 00:57 Kirsten Hart: I'm Kirsten Hart.
• 00:59 Jeffrey Seif: And I am Jeffrey Seif.
• 01:00 Being a Jewish guy, hey look, we're looking at Moses today.
• 01:03 Works for me, what about you?
• 01:05 Kirsten: I got to tell you he's my favorite.
• 01:07 He is, I love Moses.
• 01:09 Jeffrey: Why?
• 01:11 Kirsten: Because he complained to God, and God still loved him.
• 01:14 He was just really real.
• 01:17 There are things about Moses's life that were, yes, divine
• 01:20 encounters, but he was so honest and so real to God.
• 01:24 And God was just like, "You're my boy."
• 01:26 Jeffrey: I love it.
• 01:28 David: I don't think we knew his name was Moshe, though,
• 01:30 before this.
• 01:31 Kirsten: No, we've learned a lot of things from you.
• 01:33 Jeffrey: A little Hebrew.
• 01:35 Grew up in Sunday school, but you're getting a
• 01:37 new perspective.
• 01:38 Kirsten: That's good.
• 01:39 David: Moses hears from a burning bush today
• 01:41 on our dramatic reenactment, let's go there now.
• 01:42 ♪♪♪
• 01:46 male announcer: While attending sheep, Moses would hear a voice
• 01:48 from a burning bush.
• 01:55 God: Moses, come now therefore, and I will send thee unto
• 02:00 Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people, the children of
• 02:04 Israel, out of Egypt.
• 02:07 And this is my memorial unto all generations.
• 02:16 Jeffrey: I'm not an Egyptologist.
• 02:18 Truth be known, there's a lot I don't know, but I do know this,
• 02:21 that in the Bible, the deliverer came out of Egypt.
• 02:26 You're talking about Jesus, you wonder, doesn't say in the
• 02:30 New Testament, relative just going to Egypt that when he came
• 02:33 out of Egypt to fulfill what it says, the deliverer shall come
• 02:37 out of Egypt, is that who I'm talking about?
• 02:40 No, I'm talking about Moshe Rabbeinu, Moses.
• 02:45 In the Old Testament, the great deliverer came out of Egypt,
• 02:51 didn't he?
• 02:55 And he led people out of Egypt as well.
• 02:58 Born in troubled times, they tried to kill him.
• 03:00 It wasn't successful, however.
• 03:03 This Moshe Rabbeinu, as he's called, Moshe, Moses who came up
• 03:07 from the waters, really it has an Egyptian ring to it.
• 03:10 Ramoses from Ramses, Tuthmosis, Thutmose from Moses.
• 03:17 Moshe, referred to in the Jewish world as Moshe Rabbeinu,
• 03:21 Moses our teacher, he comes out of Egypt.
• 03:24 He's actually raised in the royal household of Egypt.
• 03:27 He's eventually kicked out.
• 03:30 He's going to run into the wilderness and his world is
• 03:33 going to turn upside down.
• 03:36 This man who had a call, for all intents and purposes it looked
• 03:38 like he had a fall.
• 03:42 And there he was in the wilderness, time had passed.
• 03:46 And all of a sudden, in the third chapter of the book Shemot
• 03:50 of Exodus, he hears a voice.
• 03:52 Well, first he sees a miracle.
• 03:55 He's a man of the outdoors, he sees a fire, and nothing's
• 03:57 getting consumed.
• 03:59 He hasn't seen that before.
• 04:02 God uses the supernatural to get his attention.
• 04:05 He looks there, he focuses, and out of the bush, "Moshe, Moshe."
• 04:11 He hears a voice, in response to which he said,
• 04:17 "Hineni, here am I."
• 04:21 God works through circumstances, and his life
• 04:24 looked abysmal.
• 04:26 I'm sure when Moses was growing up, by the way, his mother said,
• 04:29 "Mo, I know God's got great plans for your life."
• 04:30 You know, he was given up for dead, put in a basket,
• 04:32 he becomes a member of the royal household.
• 04:35 And his mom said, "Moey, I'm telling you, son, God's got
• 04:37 a great plan."
• 04:39 He hits 40, nothing happens.
• 04:41 He snaps, he winds up killing a few people, gets kicked out
• 04:44 of Egypt, and here he is on the run in the middle of nowhere
• 04:46 for 40 years.
• 04:48 And then all of a sudden, he hears the voice, "Moshe, Moshe."
• 04:54 And he says, "Hineni," which means, "Here am I."
• 05:00 Would that we would heed the call, even if it seems like
• 05:06 we've taken a fall.
• 05:08 We hear the voice, the voice of propheny, the voice that
• 05:11 beckons us toward God and into a new and preferred future.
• 05:18 I liken the faith walk personally to what I refer to as
• 05:21 a quest for a preferred future.
• 05:24 That is to say we dare to believe that there's more than
• 05:27 this to life.
• 05:29 You might say it's easy for an 18-year-old, he's 80.
• 05:33 Some of you are sitting there saying, "I've been on my couch
• 05:35 for a long time out of the workplace, and all the goodies
• 05:37 go to the young."
• 05:40 Listen, you want to turn your attention toward the Lord,
• 05:43 hear his voice, and hear what he calls you to do.
• 05:51 I believe that God calls people today because when he works
• 05:54 deliverance, he calls a person to be the instrument of it.
• 06:00 That is the tool in God's hand, the great deliverer
• 06:05 with a capital D.
• 06:07 Seems to me that God prefers using a person.
• 06:11 There's a Hebrew expression, [speaking in foreign language],
• 06:13 "A great miracle happened there."
• 06:16 God is in the business of doing miracles.
• 06:19 In fact, Yeshua says, "If I don't do miracles, the works of
• 06:21 my Father, then don't believe me.
• 06:23 But if I do them, believe the works, that you may know and
• 06:25 understand that I am in the Father and the Father is in me."
• 06:29 People get a look at the divine by looking at miracle.
• 06:32 People get a look at the divine as well by looking at God's Word
• 06:37 and hearing his voice.
• 06:41 In this segment, as in all the segments in this series,
• 06:44 we're looking at deliverance.
• 06:47 And here, we're looking at the call of he who is one
• 06:50 of the Bible's favorites.
• 06:55 ♪♪♪
• 07:22 announcer: As the journey progresses, the tabernacle
• 07:24 will be central to the life of the Israelites.
• 07:28 It will be overseen by priests from the tribe of Levi and serve
• 07:31 as the home to the ark when it's not in transit.
• 07:36 And the Lord spake unto Moses, "Every man of the children of
• 07:40 Israel shall camp around the tabernacle some distance from
• 07:44 it, each man under his standard with the banner of his
• 07:47 father's house."
• 07:50 It was here in a desert encampment that the Israelites
• 07:53 were transformed from a shapeless mass of people into a
• 07:58 nation whose progress would be prescribed down to the
• 08:01 minutest detail.
• 08:04 The covenant was taking form.
• 08:08 Jeffrey: First book I ever wrote was with this famous guy named
• 08:11 Zola Levitt.
• 08:14 I was working with him as an intern, and I wrote a book
• 08:17 on the tabernacle called "The House That God Built."
• 08:20 And I was so pleased that it was co-authored by Zola Levitt
• 08:24 and Jeffrey Seif.
• 08:26 And I think I even got the top billing, and I thought it was
• 08:28 the cat's meow.
• 08:31 Well, never mind my excitement, I'm excited to take you to the
• 08:33 book of Exodus.
• 08:36 And I'm sure the children of Israel were excited to get there
• 08:38 considering the trauma and the drama.
• 08:40 The trauma of bondage for hundreds of years.
• 08:42 The drama, God raised up an individual, Moshe Rabbeinu,
• 08:46 who went to Egypt and brought them out of Egypt.
• 08:49 And they came into a wilderness, they came to a mountain, and
• 08:53 they came to a place where it was time to learn to worship.
• 08:56 Twenty-fifth chapter of Exodus, they are beckoned to build
• 09:01 the Mischon is what it's referred to as, tabernacle.
• 09:07 The word "tabernacle" comes from the Latin word meaning booth.
• 09:10 I call it God's Winnebago, his RV, his traveling home in
• 09:13 the wilderness.
• 09:15 In chapter 25, verse 8, "Have them make a sanctuary for me,
• 09:20 a holy place, so that I may dwell among them."
• 09:25 And when we look here in the biblical text, we see that
• 09:28 people were minded to contribute to the war effort.
• 09:33 I love the picture here, by the way, and I want to say I love
• 09:37 the pictures that we showed you.
• 09:41 I think a picture's worth 1,000 words and just seeing those
• 09:44 biblical dramas, do you know why you saw those dramas of
• 09:48 the tabernacle?
• 09:50 Everybody loved the picture of the tabernacle, except
• 09:53 the sheep.
• 09:55 I like to say the tabernacle's a great place for Jews, it's a
• 09:58 lousy place for sheep.
• 10:00 And I saw that sheep being drug off there.
• 10:02 Of course, we didn't slaughter him, we're just looking at
• 10:04 props, and we're looking at actors, and we're looking at it
• 10:07 'cause you paid for it.
• 10:09 And I want to thank you for that.
• 10:11 Here, people sacrificially, they sacrificially filled the till in
• 10:14 order that there could be a place where God's name dwells.
• 10:16 It's TV space, and you pay for it, you through your offerings.
• 10:25 In chapter 25, verse 2, "Tell Bnei-Yisrael to take up an
• 10:28 offering from anyone whose heart compels them."
• 10:33 No Madison Avenue stuff here, no tricks.
• 10:35 We're not conning, we're just living and being and breathing.
• 10:42 And God prompts individuals who care to share, and we can bring
• 10:48 you dramas like that.
• 10:52 But if you're a believer, it's not just to bring it to you.
• 10:54 I want to thank you that we collectively together can bring
• 10:57 it to the world.
• 11:00 And oh, what a story it is.
• 11:03 I want to speak about sacred space on the quick, and then in
• 11:06 the next segment, I want to focus on one
• 11:08 aspect particularly.
• 11:11 But let me just say that in as much as I appreciate that you're
• 11:14 watching TV to come and learn about biblical truths, it's
• 11:18 important to have a place to go to, you know, where we dwell
• 11:22 together, and cooperate in a joint venture, and worship
• 11:26 the Lord.
• 11:30 The word "worship" comes from a term meaning a ship of worth.
• 11:33 In modern English, you know, worship means the kind of music
• 11:37 gig that you have when you do church.
• 11:41 Worship really comes from a ship of worth, that is to say
• 11:44 individuals finding value and investing in.
• 11:48 Individuals find value in the Lord and in linking up
• 11:52 with others.
• 11:54 Bunch of fellows in the same ship, that's the
• 11:57 word "fellowship."
• 11:59 And we share our resources, we share our talents.
• 12:02 It's important not just to be alone drifting out there in
• 12:04 the world.
• 12:06 It seems to me that God brought these people out of the world,
• 12:08 and one of the first things he did was to create a space here
• 12:11 where they would gather and they would have the experience
• 12:14 of worship.
• 12:17 If you're out of sorts with all that, let me encourage you
• 12:20 to renegotiate that.
• 12:23 You're watching television right now, religious broadcasting,
• 12:25 I'm appreciative of that.
• 12:28 I hope you're getting good information, but transformation
• 12:30 occurs when we link up with others, not just passively hear
• 12:33 a voice of an able Bible teacher.
• 12:36 Hopefully, there's some anointing in all this,
• 12:38 and you're hearing God's voice and nudging.
• 12:40 May he who spoke through the burning bush to Moses to beckon
• 12:43 him to go do something, maybe he's talking to you.
• 12:46 And let me encourage you to find that space where you can
• 12:48 participate with others in building up the house of God,
• 12:52 a testimony where he lives, and breathes, and moves.

• 14:47 Now, let's go back to the story of Moses and see how the Ark of
• 14:50 the Covenant was fashioned.
• 14:53 announcer: And they shall make an ark of acacia wood.
• 14:59 Acacia trees grow in Sinai's desert plains, and although the
• 15:03 wood is lightweight, it is hard and extremely durable.
• 15:06 The framework of the holy ark will be fashioned on this
• 15:09 very wood.
• 15:12 Bezalel is the craftsman.
• 15:14 His assistant is Oholiab.
• 15:18 And Bezalel overlaid the ark with pure gold within and
• 15:21 without, and made a crown of gold to it round about.
• 15:25 And he cast for it four rings of gold to be set by the four
• 15:29 corners of it.
• 15:32 And he made staves and overlaid them with gold.
• 15:35 And he made the mercy seat of pure gold.
• 15:39 And the cherubim spread out their wings on high and covered
• 15:42 with their wings over the mercy seat.
• 15:45 And Moses commanded the Levites, "Take this book of the law and
• 15:49 put it inside the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord your God."
• 15:55 Jeffrey: I think all Bible teachers are time travelers,
• 16:00 that is to say we take people back.
• 16:03 If we're going to the New Testament, it's 2,000 years.
• 16:05 If we're going to the Exodus, it's 3,400 years give or take.
• 16:08 We're going back.
• 16:11 And storytellers not only tell it, we have the option with
• 16:13 television to show it, and so you see the dramas that we show
• 16:16 in conjunction with this series.
• 16:19 But particularly now, there is a piece of furniture that belonged
• 16:23 to the tabernacle that has amazed for centuries.
• 16:28 And what am I referring to?
• 16:30 The Ark of the Covenant.
• 16:34 Producers in modernity have made millions on it.
• 16:37 I know you're thinking of the "Raiders of the Lost Ark,"
• 16:40 Indiana Jones, that whole notion of going back and looking
• 16:43 for biblical artifacts.
• 16:46 It really has occupied the attention of adventurers
• 16:48 for years.
• 16:51 And there are modern day Indiana Jones type on a search to find.
• 16:54 And similarly, there are religious Jews that are
• 16:57 on the search to build the accoutrements of the tabernacle
• 17:01 according to what's prescribed in the Scripture as interpreted
• 17:04 by the rabbis.
• 17:06 Those that have gone to Israel with us, I mean,
• 17:08 there's lots of tours.
• 17:10 I mean, we want you to see the good news through the eyes
• 17:12 of the Jews not just on TV, but when you get to the land itself.
• 17:15 And in Israel, there's a place there, the Holy Land Institute
• 17:18 where they're actually refabricating the paraphernalia
• 17:22 that went with the tabernacle.
• 17:24 But there's one piece of furniture they're not going
• 17:27 to build.
• 17:28 The menorah's been built, the candelabra,
• 17:30 the table of shewbread, it's all been built.
• 17:33 You come with us, we'll show you.
• 17:35 That's been built, but the Ark of the Covenant, it's not going
• 17:37 to be built, it's going to be found.
• 17:40 And what is it?
• 17:42 Well, it's found in Exodus chapter 25 here, verses 10
• 17:46 through 21.
• 17:48 "They are to make an ark, the Ark of the Covenant."
• 17:52 Fascinating piece of furniture within which was placed certain
• 17:59 religious items, the foremost the Ten Commandments themselves.
• 18:05 It's overlaid with pure gold, it's a box if you will.
• 18:09 And atop the box, there's guardian angels, cherubim.
• 18:14 It's fascinating, we're told in verse 17 that we are to make an
• 18:18 atonement cover of pure gold.
• 18:21 And it's referred to, by the way, in Hebrews chapter 9, verse
• 18:24 5 as the mercy seat.
• 18:27 God will say in the text that he comes and dwells there.
• 18:30 It's interesting, this is God's house.
• 18:33 This is the master bedroom, the Holy of Holies.
• 18:36 And this is the master bed, where he comes and dwells,
• 18:40 and he dwells in a place that's referred to as atonement
• 18:43 or forgiveness, or to use the Hebrews 9:5, mercy,
• 18:49 a place to find mercy.
• 18:51 For those minded to disparage the older testament and argue
• 18:55 that he's just an angry God who's completely unforgiving,
• 18:57 that says more about the bias of the person who's telling the
• 19:00 story than it does about the literature itself.
• 19:03 It looks like God is making a means here where people can come
• 19:06 and find him and find mercy.
• 19:09 We're told here, however, that it's guarded by these cherubim,
• 19:12 these guardian angel types.
• 19:14 It's a fascinating picture, and I'm glad that you could get
• 19:16 a window into it through the dramas that we bring you.
• 19:19 And I'm pleased to give it to you.
• 19:22 You're the one that gave it to us, by the way, it's your
• 19:24 donations that keep the cameras rolling and the actors acting.
• 19:26 You know, one picture's worth 1,000 words, and so I'm just
• 19:29 glad for you to see these spread out dramas and for you to get a
• 19:33 window into these important particulars.
• 19:37 Here, we're told in verse 20 the cherubim, these angelic types,
• 19:42 are to spread out their wings above the atonement cover with
• 19:46 their wings touching, this kind of guardian image.
• 19:50 In a previous series, by the way, if you've been following
• 19:52 us, thank you, you have been supporting us, doubly thank you.
• 19:55 But if you just want to see it, we did a series on Eden sometime
• 19:58 back that we spent a lot of time looking at these angelic figures
• 20:02 that guarded the way to paradise.
• 20:05 And here there's kind of a bit of Eden that's being retooled
• 20:07 and remanufactured.
• 20:10 Why is it happening?
• 20:13 In verse 22, it's explicit, "I will meet with you there."
• 20:21 You ever heard the expression "an appointment with destiny?"
• 20:25 You ever felt a little lost in the world?
• 20:28 Maybe you need to meet someone that can help you
• 20:31 recover equilibrium.
• 20:34 And I want you to know that irrespective of who you are and
• 20:37 where you are and what you've done, you can be in a jail cell,
• 20:42 in a prison cell with a death sentence on your head deservedly
• 20:46 so and you're never getting out, you figure life is all gone for
• 20:48 you, or you can be someone who just won the lottery and you're
• 20:52 still feeling life's empty.
• 20:54 Who you are, where you are isn't as important for my purposes as
• 20:58 is to say to you that your life can be transformed if you will
• 21:05 set up a meeting with the one who in verse 22 says, "I will
• 21:10 meet you there."
• 21:14 You might say, "That's the Old Testament, we live in the world
• 21:16 of the new."
• 21:18 I get that, but you know, a place to meet God, to find
• 21:20 atonement, forgiveness, and mercy, that exists today and
• 21:23 it's a prayer away.
• 21:25 I hope you make peace with your creator and that you find a way,
• 21:27 as it says in verse 22, to meet your creator at a place
• 21:32 called atonement and mercy.
• 21:36 Kirsten: I love the phrase "an appointment with destiny."
• 21:41 You hit on that in your last segment, your teaching segment.
• 21:45 And I chewed on that, if you will, for a while, that Moses
• 21:49 had an appointment with destiny when he was in the basket and
• 21:54 met Pharaoh's daughter.
• 21:56 He had an appointment with destiny when he met the voice of
• 22:00 God in the burning bush.
• 22:02 He had an appointment with destiny when he came back to
• 22:04 Pharaoh and said, "Let my people go."
• 22:06 It's like the pattern of his life, an appointment
• 22:08 with destiny.
• 22:11 Jeffrey: Do you think it's true for biblical characters as much
• 22:13 it is for people outside of the pages of biblical literature?
• 22:16 Can you have an appointment with destiny?
• 22:18 Can you, David?
• 22:19 Can you?
• 22:21 David: We love working with senior adults, and we have
• 22:23 a passion for them.
• 22:25 And I think a lot of them think that they're done with ministry,
• 22:28 but some of their greatest days might be ahead of them
• 22:32 just like Moses.
• 22:33 Kirsten: That their appointment with destiny is still
• 22:35 ahead, yeah.
• 22:37 Jeffrey: Oh, that's good because I thought you'd say most people
• 22:38 think, "Well, I've passed 65, that all the goodies belong to
• 22:42 the younger generation, not the older set."
• 22:44 You know how old Moses was when he got started in the game?
• 22:47 Kirsten: Eighty.
• 22:48 Jeffrey: There you go.
• 22:50 Kirsten: I got one right from the professor.
• 22:51 Jeffrey: I'm not trying to brag here, but I'm 65.
• 22:53 Kirsten: You're close to that 80, aren't you?
• 22:55 I'm just playing.
• 22:56 Jeffrey: I'm getting there close.
• 22:58 But at 65, I just went back to school.
• 22:59 And I thought I would be the oldest person in the university,
• 23:03 but I found that someone graduated with a PhD there
• 23:05 at 92, so.
• 23:07 Kirsten: Love that.
• 23:08 David: We all have things ahead of us that we don't even know
• 23:10 about, it's pretty amazing, you and us.
• 23:12 Jeffrey: Look, I'm not really big on retirement.
• 23:13 You know, one day I'll die, and when I die, I die.
• 23:16 But I don't want to die until I die, that I just want to keep
• 23:19 reaching over the horizon.
• 23:22 There's lots of problems in this world.
• 23:23 I want to be part of the cure, so do you.
• 23:25 Let's follow Moses's example and keep working at it and
• 23:28 keep working at it, you know?
• 23:30 And keep our appointments with destiny.
• 23:33 Kirsten: If I may say, one of the things you said,
• 23:35 "Why do you love him so much?"
• 23:37 At the beginning of the program, when I said Moses is
• 23:38 my favorite, and you know this for years,
• 23:40 that he didn't give up.
• 23:44 He was 40 years in the wilderness, 40 years.
• 23:49 But God knew for some reason that appointment with destiny
• 23:53 was at his--you know, if it was exact time, 40th year.
• 23:58 Some reason, God said, "Now is my time to meet with you."
• 24:02 Jeffrey: You know, sometimes I think it makes sense later.
• 24:04 You know, at 120 years age-- of age, you can look back
• 24:07 over a life.
• 24:09 He was thrown in a basket at the very beginning, very precarious,
• 24:11 but it makes sense when you look at your life and you can say,
• 24:14 "Look how God's used me and how he's kept his appointments
• 24:16 with destiny."
• 24:18 David: That's right.
• 24:19 We love this story of Moses.
