Caption transcript for Watch Therefore and Be Ready: “Fig Tree Generation” (4/8)
- 00:05 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved,
- 00:11 for there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek,
- 00:15 for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him.
- 00:39 Welcome to Zola Levitt Presents.
- 00:40 I'm Kirsten Hart.
- 00:42 And I'm David Hart.
- 00:43 Thank you for joining us in this series,
- 00:45 "Watch Therefore"
- 00:46 where we'll be discussing Bible Prophecy
- 00:48 being fulfilled even today.
- 00:51 And the fact that we all need to be
- 00:54 living ready,
- 00:56 because the next event on the calendar is
- 01:00 the Rapture, when Yeshua will come back for His children.
- 01:03 Dov Schwarz will be on location,
- 01:05 as well as Chaim Malespin.
- 01:07 We will have our Hebrew Lesson, Shalom Havarim ,
- 01:10 and we will have our Guest Analyst
- 01:13 right at this desk, Dr. Mark Hitchcock.
- 01:16 Today, Dov will be teaching and discussing Matthew 24,
- 01:21 When is Yeshua Returning and when is the End of the World?
- 01:26 Now let's go to Israel for a Lesson on the Fig Tree.
- 01:38 As Israel is blossoming all around us in this generation
- 01:42 it's so important to understand
- 01:45 the Words of Messiah Yeshua
- 01:47 found in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 24.
- 01:50 Beginning in Verse 32 He says,
- 02:14 Is this the "Fig Tree Generation" that we live in today?
- 02:19 What is the fig tree?
- 02:21 Well in Joel Chapter 1,
- 02:23 and the reason I say "Joel Chapter 1" is
- 02:25 I believe the best interpreter of the Bible is the Bible.
- 02:28 And in Joel Chapter 1 verses 6 and 7
- 02:32 the Lord calls Israel "His Fig Tree".
- 02:36 And the Fig Tree is blossoming in this generation.
- 02:40 100 years ago,
- 02:41 500 years ago,
- 02:42 1,000 - 1,500 years ago,
- 02:43 no Israel.
- 02:45 Our Generation the "Fig Tree" blossomed.
- 02:49 And so what does our Savior tell us?
- 02:51 He says that when you see this happen
- 02:54 you know all these things are going to take place.
- 02:56 What things?
- 02:58 Well...
- 02:59 He speaks of 4 birth pangs.
- 03:01 He speaks of the Great Tribulation
- 03:04 such as the world has never seen.
- 03:07 He speaks of the Days of Noah.
- 03:11 We live in that time.
- 03:13 How do we know?
- 03:15 Because at the same time you see these signs
- 03:18 you'll see the "Fig Tree" blossoming
- 03:21 showing us that we are that generation.
- 03:26 If you drive through Israel in areas
- 03:29 that not long ago were either a desert or a swamp,
- 03:33 now, The Fig Tree is blossoming.
- 03:37 WOW!
- 03:39 If Bible teachers from 100 years ago were alive today
- 03:43 they would be running about the streets
- 03:44 shaking our shoulders saying, Do you know what this means?
- 03:47 Do you know who we are?
- 03:50 We're the generation.
- 03:53 All these things, we're the generation
- 03:56 that will see Messiah Yeshua come through the clouds,
- 04:00 and sit on the Throne of David in Jerusalem.
- 04:06 Oh, you're a very important person,
- 04:08 that you've been chosen to be here in this generation.
- 04:12 And when we come back we'll talk about that word "generation".
- 04:17 What does that mean?
- 04:19 God bless you.
- 04:20 I look forward to our time together.
- 04:30 Yeshua could have used any kind of tree
- 04:33 to illustrate His point,
- 04:34 thousands of trees!
- 04:36 Why did He choose the Fig Tree?
- 04:38 Because Joel 1:7, Hosea 9:10
- 04:41 identifies Israel as a fruit tree.
- 04:43 It's God's fruit tree,
- 04:45 and just as a tree loses it's leaves in the fall,
- 04:49 has a dormant winter,
- 04:51 produces leaves in the Spring,
- 04:53 and then puts more fruit on,
- 04:55 just as that, Israel has produced for us a Messiah.
- 04:59 His Name is Yeshua,
- 05:01 and He was crucified,
- 05:03 laid in a grave,
- 05:05 now sits at the right hand of God the Father,
- 05:07 and Israel has become dormant for 2,000 years.
- 05:10 They're going to come back in the Land,
- 05:12 God is going to put leaves back on there,
- 05:15 they're going to have fruit,
- 05:16 and the ultimate fruit is
- 05:18 that Messiah returning to rule and reign as King.
- 05:21 Israel is going to give us both the Messiah and the King.
- 05:31 The signs we are seeing right now,
- 05:33 are telling of Yeshua's eminent, soon return.
- 05:38 And I think sometimes we tend to focus more
- 05:40 on the bad and the negative the scary that is coming,
- 05:43 rather than all the good that's about to happen.
- 05:46 It really is a good lesson to concentrate on the good,
- 05:49 but right now let's go back to Israel
- 05:52 to hear a report from Chaim Malespin.
- 06:00 Here we are in Jerusalem at the Museum of the Bible,
- 06:03 the Bible Museum home of the Qumran Cave Scrolls, the Dead Sea Scrolls.
- 06:08 I'm here with Elon, an expert on the Bible.
- 06:10 Elon, what do we have here in this Museum?
- 06:13 Okay, here in the Shrine of the Book
- 06:15 we have the oldest copy of the Old Testament.
- 06:20 Until 1947 the oldest copy of the Old Testament
- 06:23 was about 1,000 years old.
- 06:25 And then, in 1947 a Bedouin boy
- 06:28 found in the caves by the Dead Sea
- 06:31 the group of scrolls that were the first ones,
- 06:34 and many scrolls that were found in 11 caves around Qumran,
- 06:40 and they display the scrolls over here in this Museum.
- 06:44 The fact that the scrolls were found in 1947 is
- 06:48 also very symbolic because the scrolls were found at the
- 06:52 same time that the State of Israel was born.
- 06:56 And what a better present Israel could get for the birth of the State of Israel.
- 07:01 For 2,000 years the scrolls were in the cave,
- 07:04 and it was only a short time
- 07:07 before the Declaration of Independence we found the scrolls.
- 07:10 So the scrolls were there in the caves waiting
- 07:12 for the people of Israel to return to the Land.

- 07:45 Contact us and ask for the DVD Series,
- 07:48 "Watch Therefore and Be Ready"
- 07:52 We'll return to the program in just a moment,
- 07:54 but first, I wanted to ask
- 07:56 if you've ever thought about
- 07:58 what it takes to put this program together.
- 08:00 I can assure you it's a lot more than just lights, camera, action.
- 08:04 There's a lot of prayer and planning.
- 08:07 Our family is a lot like yours.
- 08:09 We pray, and we plan,
- 08:11 and we hope that you'll be praying for us,
- 08:14 and planning to help support us too.
- 08:29 We don't know the day or the hour,
- 08:31 but we can, through the license
- 08:32 of Scripture know the Season.
- 08:34 And what is the way we know the Season?
- 08:44 The generation that sees this will know
- 08:46 that Summer, a Season, is near.
- 08:49 And then he goes on and says,
- 08:51 everything that this generation sees will
- 08:55 be fulfilled by the generation that witnesses it.
- 09:04 We're talking about the generation that sees "The Fig Tree" blossom.
- 09:09 Why?
- 09:10 Well, first off, our Messiah Yeshua told us to.
- 09:12 He said, "Now learn."
- 09:14 When I hear "Now learn" from the Lord
- 09:16 I think I better pay attention.
- 09:18 "Now learn this parable from the fig tree."
- 09:20 "When you see it blossom you know that summer's near."
- 09:24 "This Generation will not pass away"
- 09:26 "till all these things come to pass."
- 09:28 What things?
- 09:30 The time of Great Tribulation where the world will shake,
- 09:33 a troubled generation that has never taken place in the history of humanity.
- 09:39 That's how bad it will be.
- 09:42 In a moment I've got some good news.
- 09:44 Yet we need to understand,
- 09:47 this is going to be the most difficult
- 09:49 generation in the history of humanity.
- 09:52 And it will culminate with our King,
- 09:56 our Messiah-Mashiach Yeshua-Jesus Christ
- 10:00 returning to the earth to sit on the throne of David.
- 10:03 Now, He says that this Generation will not pass away.
- 10:06 And so many are confused about the word "Generation"
- 10:09 But I think I have got a good answer here.
- 10:12 If I would ask you, Define the word "running"
- 10:16 what you'd have to understand is the context first.
- 10:18 Would that be a sprinter on a track?
- 10:21 Would that be my refrigerator?
- 10:22 Would that be my nose when I have a cold?
- 10:25 No, the context makes a difference.
- 10:27 Is there a place in the Bible where the context,
- 10:30 the word "Generation" is used in,
- 10:32 refers to the Jewish people being out of the nations
- 10:35 and being brought back to the Land?
- 10:37 Because that's the context of the fig tree blossoming.
- 10:40 The Jews were in the Diaspora and the Nation of Israel was birthed.
- 10:44 And they're back now and they're still coming.
- 10:48 Is there a place where the word "generation" is used that way in the Bible?
- 10:51 There's one,
- 10:53 and it's so prominent.
- 10:54 It's our Father Abraham being spoken to by the Lord
- 10:58 in Genesis Chapter 15.
- 10:59 Listen to this, it's so powerful.
- 11:31 Here we see biblically in the context of the Jews
- 11:35 being out of the Land and then being brought back.
- 11:38 400 years is 4 generations.
- 11:41 If 400 years is 4 generations
- 11:44 how long is 1 generation?
- 11:47 100 years...
- 11:51 100 years.
- 11:53 WOW!
- 11:54 So how do I apply that to the fig tree blossoming?
- 11:58 Israel becoming a nation?
- 12:00 It's a great question.
- 12:03 How can we know?
- 12:05 Or is it okay to say that we can know the
- 12:08 generation of the coming of our Lord?
- 12:10 Isn't that what our Messiah told us to know?
- 12:13 These are questions we're going to answer when we come back.
- 12:16 And what we need to do is watch and be ready in "The Fig Tree Generation".
- 12:29 So what we see unfolding right now
- 12:31 in Israel, in the Middle East,
- 12:33 and around the world, I believe,
- 12:35 is setting the stage for the prophetic events predicted
- 12:38 in Ezekiel 38, Daniel 11,
- 12:41 Psalm 83, when it talks about
- 12:43 the entire Arab nation coming up against the Jewish State of Israel,
- 12:48 but God has other plans.
- 12:50 In the End Times, in Zechariah Chapter 12,
- 12:53 when the Jewish people come back into the Land of Israel,
- 12:55 the least of them will be like David.
- 12:59 We know that the Bible says, "Saul's slain his thousands, but David his 10 thousands!".
- 13:04 So in that, we have the statement that there is
- 13:07 going to be this incredible, powerful military.
- 13:11 And I find it very interesting,
- 13:13 A spokesman for ISIS recently said,
- 13:16 We fear no military on the earth but one,
- 13:20 Israel.

- 14:00 One of the things that we love to do
- 14:02 in Israel every time we go,
- 14:04 is to sing, and to lead people like you in worship.
- 14:07 I know that you had an experience in Tiberias
- 14:11 on the boat on the Sea of Galilee.
- 14:13 Right on the "Jesus Boat",
- 14:15 right on the Sea of Galilee,
- 14:17 which is something you will get to do
- 14:18 on a Zola Tour.
- 14:19 And as the sun was setting, Oh my goodness,
- 14:23 we got to sing, "It is Well with my Soul",
- 14:26 and the Sea was peaceful.
- 14:29 The peace was right there.
- 14:30 You can find all of the information on our tour on levitt.com
- 14:34 Now let's go to our Hebrew lesson
- 14:36 so you can pick up some Hebrew to use
- 14:38 when you go on a tour in the Holy Land.
- 14:47 Shalom Haverim
- 14:49 One of the more fun words you're going to hear, here in Israel
- 14:52 is the word L'Chaim ,
- 14:54 and we use it when we toast in celebration,
- 14:57 L'Chaim , it means "To Life"
- 14:59 Do you remember the movie, "Fiddler on the Roof?
- 15:02 and Friday night when he sings,
- 15:04 "To Life, To Life, " L'Chaim !"
- 15:07 Now every Shabbat when we gather round as a family
- 15:10 my children, and husband and I,
- 15:12 we take our glasses,
- 15:13 and after we bless the wine,
- 15:15 before we drink we toast our glasses together
- 15:19 and everybody scrambles around the table
- 15:21 to try and get each glass toasted.
- 15:24 So this week, as you toast,
- 15:27 or as you gather to celebrate the Shabbat,
- 15:29 maybe you can add this tradition to your family,
- 15:32 and say "To Life!", " L'Chaim ! ",
- 15:35 from my family to yours.
- 15:38 I love this great positive word that I think we heard
- 15:41 in Israel quite a bit on the street, right?
- 15:43 The word is " Chai "
- 15:44 and then this is the cheer, "To Life!"
- 15:47 Let's try it.
- 15:49 L'Chaim !
- 15:50 Did you ever watch "Fiddler on the Roof"?
- 15:52 Long time ago.
- 15:53 Long movie,
- 15:55 but it's a good movie.
- 15:56 Do you remember the song?
- 15:57 "To Life, To Life L'Chaim !"
- 16:00 " L'Chaim , L'Chaim To Life!
- 16:02 I don't know the rest of the words,
- 16:03 but I do know the " L'Chaim " part.
- 16:05 It's a great word!
- 16:06 One more toast, do it again.
- 16:07 To Life! Cheers
- 16:08 " L'Chaim !"
- 16:10 Right now let's go back to our
- 16:11 teaching on location with Dove Schwarz.
- 16:20 Israel, "The Fig Tree" is blossoming all around us.
- 16:23 You may even hear the sounds of construction.
- 16:26 Everywhere you go in Israel there's building and expansion.
- 16:30 That's because we're in "The Fig Tree Generation".
- 16:32 And I spoke a little while about the generation being 100 years.
- 16:35 We found that out from the Father of our Faith,
- 16:38 Father Abraham in Genesis Chapter 15.
- 16:42 And in Genesis 15 as we understand that this is "The Fig Tree Generation"
- 16:49 we know that we need to be ready because Messiah Yeshua told us,
- 16:53 "This Generation will not pass away"
- 16:55 "till all these things take place."
- 16:56 What all things?
- 16:59 All the trouble that's coming in the Great Tribulation
- 17:03 and the coming of Messiah Yeshua to sit on the Throne of David,
- 17:06 "The Messianic Age".
- 17:08 This time is winding down folks.
- 17:11 Now I've heard scoffers say, and II Peter tells us there will be scoffers,
- 17:15 that's another sign.
- 17:16 You don't want to fulfill Bible Prophecy that way.
- 17:19 That's another sign of this Generation.
- 17:21 They say, well the Lord said to His disciples,
- 17:24 "No, it's not for you to know the times and seasons of His coming.
- 17:27 Well, let me explain something.
- 17:29 Yes, He was talking to them at that time,
- 17:31 and they were expecting the Messianic Age to come in then.
- 17:34 They didn't understand "going out to the nations with the Gospel."
- 17:36 It wasn't time for them to know.
- 17:38 But later, the Apostle Paul is out with the Gospel in the nations.
- 17:41 And he explains to the Thessalonians and others the times and seasons.
- 17:46 And he says this in I Thessalonians Chapter 5.
- 17:48 He says,
- 17:57 That you'll walk in darkness.
- 17:58 And so, don't walk in darkness in this generation.
- 18:01 King Yeshua's coming!
- 18:03 And we need to be ready.
- 18:05 He says, watch therefore and be ready.
- 18:08 He repeats it in Matthew 24,
- 18:09 Mark 13, Luke 21.
- 18:12 He repeats "Watch therefore and be ready"
- 18:16 Are you ready?
- 18:17 Are you ready for the coming of our Great King?
- 18:22 He says the wise and faithful servant is
- 18:26 watching for the Master to come
- 18:28 and doing what the Master commanded.
- 18:29 Are you ready?
- 18:31 He says that He will come in the clouds for His people.
- 18:54 I want to comfort you with this.
- 18:56 King Yeshua is coming for us in the clouds any moment.
- 18:59 And He commands us to be ready.
- 19:01 If you don't know, that you know that you know,
- 19:03 that He's changed your heart,
- 19:06 and made you a new creation in Messiah Yeshua.
- 19:09 Now's the time to cry out to Him,
- 19:12 Oh Messiah Jesus, forgive me, save me.
- 19:16 I believe you died on the Cross for my sins,
- 19:18 you were buried and on the 3rd day rose again.
- 19:20 Forgive me of my sins and save me.
- 19:22 I want to turn away from my way and go Your Way.
- 19:25 I want to live a life that honors our Father, " Abba ", "Father" in Heaven.
- 19:31 And if you don't know that's happened to you know this,
- 19:36 this Generation will not pass away till all these things come to pass.
- 19:42 And He sets before us life and death.
- 19:46 And He really wants us to choose life.
- 19:49 I encourage you today,
- 19:51 call upon the Name of the Lord.
- 19:53 And if you already have,
- 19:54 and you know you're born again,
- 19:55 you know you're a follower of Messiah Yeshua,
- 19:58 follow Him with everything in you in this Generation.
- 20:03 Oh Father in Heaven, in Messiah Yeshua's Name
- 20:07 Thank you for Your kindness, goodness, richness and love for us
- 20:11 to show us who we are in this Generation,
- 20:16 as Your Kingdom is blossoming all around us,
- 20:20 yet there's great trouble coming,
- 20:23 You show us we need to be ready.
- 20:26 Oh thank you Father in Heaven, in Messiah Yeshua's Name, Amen.
- 20:30 Now that is for you and that's for me.
- 20:34 His love and that His ears are always open to our prayers.
- 20:39 Be ready,
- 20:41 the King is coming.
- 20:52 Thank you Dov.
- 20:53 We are back today with Pastor Hitchcock,
- 20:56 and we are excited to hear more about
- 20:59 your input on prophecy,
- 21:02 what's going on right now.
- 21:04 especially in Israel.
- 21:05 I put out a question on social media,
- 21:09 because I think it's very interesting,
- 21:11 this whole generation shall not pass.
- 21:14 And I put that question out and I asked,
- 21:16 What do you think Yeshua-Jesus meant with this generation?
- 21:20 And I mean, we had 30 year, 40 year, 100 year,
- 21:23 people back then, people in the future.
- 21:26 You're the prophecy expert.
- 21:29 What is your thought on the word "generation"?
- 21:34 Before He talks about
- 21:35 this generation won't pass away,
- 21:37 Jesus introduces the Parable of the fig tree.
- 21:40 And as Dove was talking about,
- 21:41 many people take that to be the Nation of Israel,
- 21:43 because so many times in the Old Testament
- 21:47 Israel is pictured as a fig tree.
- 21:49 So when they say, "The fig tree begins to blossom" here,
- 21:51 that's when Israel became a Nation in 1948,
- 21:54 and then Jesus goes on and says,
- 21:58 And they take that to be the generation
- 22:00 that saw the blossoming of the Nation of Israel in 1948.
- 22:04 Others will take this generation here to be
- 22:07 the generation that's alive during the time
- 22:09 of the Tribulation period,
- 22:11 In other words...
- 22:12 So once that starts.
- 22:13 Once that starts, that generation,
- 22:15 because He likens it to birth pangs,
- 22:17 in other words, once they see those birth pangs,
- 22:19 and the Tribulation period,
- 22:20 they're not going to stop.
- 22:21 And so that future generation won't pass away
- 22:24 until all those things have been fulfilled.
- 22:26 But whichever view you take,
- 22:28 everyone agrees, at least all the prophecy teachers I know agree,
- 22:31 that Israel is the super sign of the End Times.
- 22:34 So many prophecies in the Bible hinge
- 22:37 on the Jewish people being back in their Land.
- 22:39 For instance, the event that begins the 7 year Tribulation period
- 22:44 is the anti-Christ, this coming world ruler
- 22:47 signing a 7 year treaty, or enforcing a 7 year treaty
- 22:50 with the many in the Nation of Israel.
- 22:52 Well he can't do that if they're not in the Land.
- 22:54 Right
- 22:55 Also, the Bible talks about this invasion of Gog and Magog.
- 22:59 In Ezekiel 38 and 39 these invaders coming into the Land of Israel
- 23:03 to try to crush the Jewish people.
- 23:04 Again, that can't happen if the Jewish people aren't in the Land.
- 23:07 So, whatever view one takes of the fig tree or this generation,
- 23:12 we all agree that Israel is this super sign, the key sign,
- 23:16 and that 1948 was a critical date really on God's prophetic time clock.
- 23:21 And if people are thinking
- 23:23 30 to 40 year kind of Americanized generation,
- 23:26 that's already gone.
- 23:27 That would have happened in the 80's.
- 23:29 We have all the books,
- 23:30 "1984", and the different years
- 23:32 people are thinking this is the time.
- 23:34 So how do we translate that into every day?
- 23:37 The series is "Watch Therefore".
- 23:39 How do we keep watch?
- 23:41 What should we be looking for?
- 23:43 My thought is, look with Israel back in the Land,
- 23:46 and all the things we see happening in our world today,
- 23:49 we have every reason to believe that Jesus
- 23:51 could come back at any moment.
- 23:52 And we need to live that way.
- 23:54 And we never want to get caught up on dates,
- 23:56 40 years, 60 years, 80 years, I don't think.
- 23:59 We need to be living as if Jesus could come back at any moment.
- 24:02 In fact, he says here in Matthew 24 a little bit further on,
- 24:06 he says, that the Son of Man is coming
- 24:09 at a time you don't think he will.
- 24:10 And I remember a great story,
- 24:12 Robert Murray McCheyne, the great preacher,
- 24:14 had a bunch of Pastors gathered,
- 24:16 and he went around asking all of them,
- 24:17 Do you think Jesus is going to come back tonight?
- 24:19 And every one of them said, No, they didn't.
- 24:21 And he quoted that verse, and he said,
- 24:23 "The Son of Man is going to come at a time that you don't think He will."
- 24:26 And I think there's a lot of people that
- 24:28 just kind of go through life today
- 24:30 so busy and harried with all the things of life,
- 24:32 they never take time to stop and watch,
- 24:35 and to wait for the coming of Jesus Christ,
- 24:37 that could take place at any moment.
- 24:39 Well, your Dad had a great story about
- 24:41 the "Watch Therefore".
- 24:43 The was probably 45 years ago,
- 24:45 and I remember as a child hearing him
- 24:47 tell the story from the pulpit,
- 24:49 from Los Angeles, California
- 24:50 where he Pastored.
- 24:52 Had quite a few strange folks knock on his door
- 24:55 with lots of different thoughts that they had.
- 24:57 One was a lady, pounded on his door
- 25:00 and said, Pastor Hart, we're in trouble!
- 25:03 Tomorrow, I believe the Lord told me,
- 25:05 he's coming back tomorrow!
- 25:06 And my dad stopped her and said,
- 25:08 I believe he's coming back today.
- 25:11 So really, we don't have any idea when that day's going to be,
- 25:14 but always be ready, correct?
- 25:15 That's right, Amen.
