Episode: “Blood Atonement”
The Torah’s proclamation that life is in the blood and salvation comes only through blood sacrifice foreshadowed Yeshua’s sacrifice, which made Jew and gentile spiritually equal yet distinct. Together, we can celebrate the Biblical feasts in their Messianic fulfillment. Chaim at The Aliyah Return Center aids Jewish immigrants. Dana teaches us how to thank the God of the Armies in Hebrew. David and Kirsten sing “Yeshua,” a song by Zola.
Series: “Called Together (2018)”
This series focuses on how gentile Christians are beginning to recognize their Messianic brothers and sisters (Jewish believers in Jesus/Yeshua) as the “natural olive branch.” The Lord calls us to work together to bring the Messiah especially to the House of Israel. From the studio, David and Kirsten Hart present these eight programs that feature on-location Bible teaching from “Our Man in Haifa” Eitan Shishkoff, reports from Chaim Malespin, and Hebrew lessons from Dana Feinstein. Guest analyst Dr. Jeffrey Seif helps us apply these teachings to our lives.

Caption transcript for Called Together (2018): “Blood Atonement” (7/8)

  • 00:05 Brethren, my hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel
  • 00:09 is that they might be saved
  • 00:11 for there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek
  • 00:14 for the same Lord over all is rich
  • 00:17 unto all that call upon Him.
  • 00:36 Hi, I'm David Hart.
  • 00:37 Welcome to Zola Levitt Presents.
  • 00:39 And I'm Kirsten Hart.
  • 00:40 Welcome back to our series,
  • 00:41 "Called Together"
  • 00:43 Yes, today Eitan Shishkoff
  • 00:46 will continue teaching from Haifa.
  • 00:49 He's one of the best Messianic teachers around.
  • 00:51 He is in Israel all the time.
  • 00:54 We're so honored and blessed to
  • 00:55 have him part of our program Zola Levitt Presents.
  • 00:58 And he writes!
  • 00:59 He does.
  • 01:00 He writes a lot of columns for the Levitt Letters.
  • 01:02 So he will be teaching on something
  • 01:04 that David and I at home have literally
  • 01:07 been sitting on our couch talking about.
  • 01:10 The Torah.
  • 01:12 The Law.
  • 01:13 How do we as Gentile believers fit in?
  • 01:17 Eitan will be teaching on that today.
  • 01:19 Also, Chaim Malespin is working to help people make Aliyah .
  • 01:24 So right now let's go to Eitan in Haifa.
  • 01:33 [Eitan blowing the shofar]
  • 01:45 There's nothing quite like the sound of a shofar is there?
  • 01:48 And what's really interesting is that for the first time
  • 01:51 in the entire history of Gentile nations following
  • 01:55 Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah
  • 01:57 we're hearing the sound of shofarote in churches!
  • 02:01 And Hebrew banners are being waved
  • 02:03 and songs are being sung to Hebrew melodies.
  • 02:06 How did this come about?
  • 02:08 This is incredible!
  • 02:09 Actually it really was keyed to the recovery of Jerusalem
  • 02:13 as the eternal Capital of Israel in 1967.
  • 02:17 And from that time forward we see that
  • 02:20 Christians are searching.
  • 02:22 They're searching for their Jewish roots.
  • 02:24 In fact, in contradiction to all these years
  • 02:28 when really there was persecution of the Jewish people
  • 02:30 tragically at the hands of the Church,
  • 02:32 Christian people are asking, well
  • 02:34 what about our Jewish roots?
  • 02:36 What about the Torah?
  • 02:38 Here we have the Torah Scroll, the 5 Books of Moses
  • 02:42 which we use in our Messianic Congregation and read from it.
  • 02:45 Nothing but the Word of God.
  • 02:48 And people are asking, well shouldn't we be keeping this same way
  • 02:52 of life that Jesus and the disciples lived?
  • 02:55 Well I would like to try to clear up some of this confusion
  • 02:58 because God really does not call us to
  • 03:00 change our identity in that sense.
  • 03:03 And one of the things that's important to realize
  • 03:05 is there really is no salvation according to works,
  • 03:08 no even in the Torah...that's right.
  • 03:11 The Torah is a Covenant or a series of Covenants of grace.
  • 03:15 Let me read to you from the Book of Leviticus
  • 03:18 and you'll see what I'm talking about
  • 03:20 [Speaking Hebrew]
  • 03:31 Which in English is:
  • 03:43 Thus we have the basis, the foundation for the New Covenant.
  • 03:47 And amazingly we also read in the prophet Jeremiah
  • 03:51 that God will place through the New Covenant,
  • 03:53 He will place this Torah inside of our heart to be a living document.
  • 03:58 Because in fact Jesus' way of life was the
  • 04:02 way of life that was given by God to Israel
  • 04:04 through Moses in these 5 Books of the Torah
  • 04:07 in order to pave the way for Him to be the Messiah of Israel.
  • 04:11 Otherwise He could not have saved the entire world.
  • 04:14 So what we see is that God gave to Israel the Torah to save the world.
  • 04:20 I want to continue with these ideas in our next segment.
  • 04:28 We'll have more teaching from Eitan in just a bit
  • 04:31 but right now, let's go to the Western Wall
  • 04:34 where we met a gentleman from Rwanda
  • 04:37 who has a passion for Israel.
  • 04:44 [Speaking to Producer Ken Berg] My name is Paul...
  • 04:47 I come from Rwanda.
  • 04:49 Rwanda is in Central Africa.
  • 04:52 I'm here because since 1998 after Rwandan Genocide
  • 04:59 we were praying, seeking the peace of Rwanda.
  • 05:05 Then, in our prayer the Lord spoke to us
  • 05:10 to pray for Jerusalem if we want to have peace in our country.
  • 05:14 It was a little complicated.
  • 05:17 We say, How can we say pray for Jerusalem, Israel
  • 05:20 when we have problems in Rwanda?
  • 05:22 We come from genocide.
  • 05:25 And many people couldn't believe that.
  • 05:27 But I started to study the Bible a little bit.
  • 05:30 I found where the Bible said,
  • 05:32 Seek the peace of Jerusalem.
  • 05:35 May people prosper who pray for Jerusalem.
  • 05:38 So from that time I started encouraging people
  • 05:42 to come pray for Israel.
  • 05:44 Like... I didn't know anybody here
  • 05:47 but I can say coincidentally
  • 05:51 I met a Pastor in Uganda.
  • 05:54 In 1996 he was a Jew from here.
  • 05:58 His name is Reuven Berger.
  • 06:02 He came to the conference.
  • 06:04 He preached about Israel, how we can pray for Israel.
  • 06:08 Then after the meeting he came to see me.
  • 06:12 He said, Are you from Rwanda?
  • 06:14 I said, Yes.
  • 06:15 He gave me a menorah.
  • 06:17 Then he said, Come just to pray for Jerusalem.
  • 06:20 From that time we came with many people.
  • 06:23 And we want to support Israel at any cost.
  • 06:27 We are behind Israel.
  • 06:29 Ken - Why do you think Christians from around the world
  • 06:32 should care about Israel and the Jewish people?
  • 06:35 Why?
  • 06:36 Paul - Number One, it's biblical
  • 06:39 because the Bible says the nation
  • 06:42 that will not go up to Jerusalem,
  • 06:45 there shall not be rain in their nations.
  • 06:48 We want blessing to come over here.
  • 06:51 Second, Jewish people are rejected with the nations.
  • 06:55 We as the Christians must support them,
  • 06:59 stand with them, back them because
  • 07:03 it's the place where our Lord Jesus walked.
  • 07:06 So, we must come here to back up Jewish people.
  • 07:12 Another reason is physically Jesus was a Jew.
  • 07:19 The 12 Disciples were Jews.
  • 07:22 The 100 Disciples were Jews.
  • 07:27 When they were filled by the Holy Spirit they were Jews.
  • 07:30 So our root is in Israel.
  • 07:34 We must connect with them.
  • 07:36 So, the Church today must connect with their roots.
  • 07:40 And the root is Jewish people and Israel.
  • 07:44 David - Now let's go back to Haifa
  • 07:45 for more teaching from Eitan.
  • 07:48 In the 1st Century as the Apostles of Jesus
  • 07:51 began to spread the Good News in
  • 07:53 Israel in the world of their day
  • 07:55 they were surprised.
  • 07:57 How were they surprised?
  • 07:59 They were surprised because God was set to include the Gentiles.
  • 08:03 Now, unbeknownst to them this was really
  • 08:06 a central part of God's plan.
  • 08:08 It took a supernatural revelation to Peter on a roof in Jaffa
  • 08:12 in order to convince him to come north to [Kasaria]
  • 08:16 where in the house of Cornelius the Gentiles were welcome into the Kingdom.
  • 08:20 Only 5 Chapters later there was a controversy
  • 08:25 because some of the brothers came from Jerusalem
  • 08:27 and they said,
  • 08:37 "They need to follow exactly the Jewish way of life that we've been following."
  • 08:40 "That's what all the disciples do isn't it?"
  • 08:43 And so the Apostles got together.
  • 08:45 And as they were discussing this question
  • 08:48 of obedience to the Torah in all of its detail
  • 08:53 there was a profound decision that was reached.
  • 08:56 And here was the decision.
  • 08:58 The decision was that God was not requiring
  • 09:01 the Gentiles who were new believers in Jesus
  • 09:04 to live by the Torah
  • 09:06 but that they should not eat things that
  • 09:08 were strangled, offered to idols,
  • 09:11 that which was blood, or to commit sexual immorality.
  • 09:15 But they were to follow Yeshua with all of their hearts.
  • 09:19 Now it's important to note that the Messianic Jews were
  • 09:23 not given that same,
  • 09:25 what should I say?, Open book
  • 09:28 What the Messianic Jews understood,
  • 09:30 and it's clear from the context of the rest of the book of Acts
  • 09:33 is that they would continue to live a Jewish life.
  • 09:36 Again, as we've said before, not on the basis of their works
  • 09:39 but on the grace of God expressed through Yeshua.
  • 09:43 This phenomenon is something that causes us to pause
  • 09:49 because we realize that God is not calling a Jew to become a Gentile
  • 09:55 or a Gentile to become a Jew
  • 09:57 anymore than He's calling a man to become a woman or a woman to become a man.
  • 10:01 We take these words in context from the Apostle Paul who says
  • 10:05 that those who are in the Messiah are
  • 10:08 neither Jew nor Gentile, male nor female.
  • 10:11 Well, Hay, the last time I looked
  • 10:14 there's still males and there's still females.
  • 10:16 I'm very thankful for it
  • 10:18 but there are still Jews and Gentiles as well.
  • 10:21 Does this mean that there's a 2nd class status to those who aren't Jewish?
  • 10:25 Not at all!
  • 10:26 Not in the least!
  • 10:27 That's not God's intention.
  • 10:29 The reality is that we are absolutely spiritually equal with one another
  • 10:33 but we have distinctive roles just as male and female.
  • 10:38 This to me is a profound solution
  • 10:41 to something that has caused many people disruption in relationship.
  • 10:47 We are in complete relationship with each other
  • 10:49 by the Love of God in the Messiah.
  • 10:52 David - Now to Jerusalem and our Hebrew lesson with Diana.
  • 10:57 So as we all know young adults here in Israel at the age of 18 to 20 - 21,
  • 11:04 they all go to Tza-Vah which means "Army".
  • 11:07 So in your prayer when you ask for protection from the God of the Armies,
  • 11:12 you can use these two simple words.
  • 11:15 Elo-hey Tze-Vah-ot
  • 11:17 Elo-hey Elohim Tze-Vah-ot
  • 11:20 "God of the Armies"
  • 11:23 So we "thank you" To-dah Abba Adonai
  • 11:27 That you're Elo-hey Tze-Vah-ot
  • 11:30 Thank you God my Lord
  • 11:34 that you are the God of the Armies, my Protector.
  • 11:40 She is a good teacher isn't she?
  • 11:42 Well she makes it sound so easy.
  • 11:44 Yeah, we've been doing pretty good so far.
  • 11:46 This one's a little more difficult today.
  • 11:48 So try it at home with us.
  • 11:50 Elo-hey Tze-Vah-ot
  • 11:53 is "God of the Armies"
  • 11:54 which we happen to love because
  • 11:56 our oldest son Tyler is in the Army.
  • 11:58 That's right.
  • 11:59 What about the other words?
  • 12:00 Let's say it again one more time
  • 12:01 because I didn't say it.
  • 12:02 Elo-hey Tze-Vah-ot
  • 12:04 and To-dah which is something if
  • 12:06 you're going to Israel you've got to know
  • 12:08 To-dah - "Thank you"
  • 12:09 " Abba "
  • 12:10 "Father"
  • 12:11 I love this one,
  • 12:12 Adonai is "God"
  • 12:14 We sing that a lot.
  • 12:15 That's right.
  • 12:16 It's a beautiful word - " Adonai "
  • 12:17 Yes, We'll be right back.
  • 12:21 Jeffrey Seif here,
  • 12:22 glad you're there,
  • 12:24 glad to participate with you in Zola Levitt Presents.
  • 12:27 Getting the Word out is so important to us,
  • 12:29 and thank you in advance for helping us.
  • 12:32 Have a series coming up called "Psalms of Ascent"
  • 12:35 Looking to get it out.
  • 12:36 We need your help to do it.
  • 12:37 So if you would, please be gracious, caring and sharing
  • 12:40 and make a good donation to Zola Levitt Presents
  • 12:44 Thanking you in advance.
  • 12:50 For many a trip to the Holy Land
  • 12:52 is the dream of a lifetime.
  • 12:54 The Bible truly comes alive as you
  • 12:56 see the sites where so many biblical events happened.
  • 13:00 Where the teaching
  • 13:02 is always from a Messianic perspective.
  • 13:04 Come on a Zola Tour in the Spring to see Israel and Petra
  • 13:08 or in the fall to add a cruise to Greece and Ephesus.
  • 13:12 See the Land of the Bible for yourself.
  • 13:15 Contact us to reserve your dream of a lifetime.
  • 13:21 We would love for you to join us on
  • 13:22 a tour to Israel, Petra or even a Greek cruise
  • 13:27 in the Fall or the Spring.
  • 13:29 One of my favorite memories as a child
  • 13:32 my folks went to Israel
  • 13:34 back when I was probably 12 years old.
  • 13:37 And my Dad was baptized in the Jordan River.
  • 13:39 And he took with him about a dozen vials
  • 13:42 and filled Jordan water,
  • 13:44 brought it back to Los Angeles, California.
  • 13:47 And I remember the day I was baptized
  • 13:49 as he poured that vial of water into the baptism pool.
  • 13:54 And it's something that I will never forget.
  • 13:56 It's such a great, great memory.
  • 13:58 I love that story.
  • 13:59 And I love that he did that.
  • 14:01 Everyone has an opportunity on every Zola Tour
  • 14:04 to go to the Jordan River and be baptized
  • 14:07 in the same body of water that Yeshua was.
  • 14:09 Chaim Malespin lives right next to the Jordan River.
  • 14:13 He is the Director of the Aliyah Return Center.
  • 14:16 They help with housing and assistance and so much more.
  • 14:19 Here's Chaim now.
  • 14:26 Chaim - The Jordan River.
  • 14:28 The very river that supernaturally parted
  • 14:30 to make way for 12 Tribes led by Joshua
  • 14:32 to cross into the Promised Land.
  • 14:35 Do you know that the children of Israel are coming home still.
  • 14:38 We are still in the Bible story today.
  • 14:40 Maybe they're not crossing over the Jordan River.
  • 14:42 Maybe they're going on planes.
  • 14:44 Maybe they're going on boats.
  • 14:45 But when they get here they're housed for free in
  • 14:47 The Aliyah Return Center.
  • 14:49 Every single building there is used
  • 14:52 as a place to bless the Jewish people
  • 14:54 as they come and have no house.
  • 14:55 But you know what?
  • 14:57 When Christians are reading Jeremiah 32:41
  • 15:04 they are taking it seriously
  • 15:05 and they are saying, I want to do that.
  • 15:07 Like this very bridge
  • 15:08 built by pioneers so many years ago.
  • 15:11 We need to continue to pioneer
  • 15:13 here in the Land of Israel
  • 15:15 between two very different worlds.
  • 15:17 And become one in love.
  • 15:25 Isaiah 14:1 says it clearly,
  • 15:27 "The Lord will bring them back
  • 15:29 to settle once again in their own Land
  • 15:31 and people from many nations will come
  • 15:33 and join them there
  • 15:34 and unite with the people of Israel.
  • 15:36 That's exactly what's happening
  • 15:38 at the Aliyah Return Center
  • 15:39 in Galilee, Israel.
  • 15:41 We invite you to partner with us
  • 15:42 in helping to renovate this
  • 15:43 abandoned boarding school
  • 15:45 into a place where Jewish people from around the world
  • 15:48 will be welcomed home.
  • 15:54 Let's work together for Israel
  • 15:56 and witness the fulfillment
  • 15:58 of Isaiah's prophecy.
  • 16:02 I'm standing here with 2 interns at the Aliyah Return Center here in the Jordan Valley.
  • 16:07 What are your names?
  • 16:08 Where are you from?
  • 16:09 And what caused you to get this heart of God
  • 16:10 to bless the new immigrants here to the Land of Israel?
  • 16:14 My name is Garret
  • 16:15 and this is my wife Christina.
  • 16:17 We are from the far corner of the world in Alaska, USA
  • 16:21 And God about 5 years ago
  • 16:24 impressed on our hearts His love for the Jewish people.
  • 16:26 His continued heart of mercy out of Romans 11
  • 16:30 our eyes were opened to see His heart for them.
  • 16:35 And we really realized that
  • 16:36 not only does He have a heart for them
  • 16:38 but He wants us to have a heart for them as well.
  • 16:40 And so as we studied,
  • 16:43 as we journeyed through the Word together
  • 16:46 our eyes were opened.
  • 16:47 We saw God's heart in a new way.
  • 16:51 And we really felt like the Lord was
  • 16:53 calling us to come here to Aliyah Return Center
  • 16:55 where we could help new immigrants as they moved to Israel
  • 16:59 and as they are trying to get their feet on the ground.
  • 17:02 And we just wanted to be here to support them
  • 17:06 in the movement that God is doing.
  • 17:10 Let's continue to see the Isaiah 9 brilliance expand
  • 17:14 as we do together both Jew and Gentile.
  • 17:18 David - Now let's go back to Eitan
  • 17:19 as he wraps up this week's teaching.
  • 17:22 In front of me is the Torah Scroll
  • 17:24 which is revered as the Word of God.
  • 17:26 There's no commentary in it.
  • 17:28 It's just the 1st 5 Books of the Bible
  • 17:29 just as we have in our languages.
  • 17:32 And we've opened it up now so that
  • 17:34 we can think about the parallels between
  • 17:37 the life of Yeshua and the Feasts of Israel.
  • 17:40 The Israeli men were commanded 3 times a year
  • 17:43 to come to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover
  • 17:46 and its associated Feasts,
  • 17:48 the "Feast of Weeks" 50 days later
  • 17:51 and then the "Feast of Tabernacle"
  • 17:53 and its associated Feasts.
  • 17:55 It's not by accident that these 3 Feasts
  • 17:57 really define the first coming of Yeshua,
  • 18:01 the second coming of Yeshua,
  • 18:03 and this period of time in which we are now living.
  • 18:05 Which we could call the age of the congregation, the age of the believers.
  • 18:10 During the Passover season Yeshua sacrificed His Life for us.
  • 18:15 We know that He was crucified during Passover
  • 18:18 as the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.
  • 18:21 But He did not remain dead.
  • 18:23 Thank God forever.
  • 18:24 But He rose as the First Fruits of the dead.
  • 18:27 Then 50 days later the Feasts of Weeks
  • 18:30 which is the Feast of Harvest came.
  • 18:32 And that Feast was designated by God
  • 18:34 as the Feast that was celebrated in the Book of Acts
  • 18:38 as a time of harvest
  • 18:39 and a time of including the Gentiles as
  • 18:42 2 loaves were waved before the people in Israel.
  • 18:46 The final collection of Feasts is in the Fall.
  • 18:48 And it starts with a Feast of Trumpets
  • 18:51 which we're told that the Messiah will descend
  • 18:53 from heaven at the sound of the Trumpet, the Shofar.
  • 18:56 And then the dead will rise.
  • 18:58 Then there is Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement
  • 19:01 in which we believe that the people of Israel will
  • 19:04 see and recognize Jesus as their Messiah.
  • 19:07 And finally the Feast of Tabernacles or Sukkot
  • 19:10 when Zechariah tells us that all nations will
  • 19:13 gather in Jerusalem and worship the King.
  • 19:17 These Feasts give us the meaning of Torah.
  • 19:19 So the question then is,
  • 19:21 shouldn't everybody be keeping the Torah?
  • 19:24 Well I believe the Feasts are a key
  • 19:26 that as Jews and Gentiles together
  • 19:28 we can celebrate these Feasts
  • 19:30 in their Messianic fulfillment.
  • 19:33 The kinds of errors that are taking place,
  • 19:35 things like the "Two Covenant Theory"
  • 19:37 which says you don't have to be saved if you're Jewish.
  • 19:40 That doesn't make sense.
  • 19:42 Why would Yeshua come as the Messiah of Israel if that was the case?
  • 19:47 Or the "Ephraimite Theory"
  • 19:48 that all Christians are Jews,
  • 19:50 which is reverse replacement theology.
  • 19:53 Or finally, the idea of one law.
  • 19:56 That we're all supposed to keep one law,
  • 19:58 taking a phrase from the Torah.
  • 20:00 Well that was referring to the " Ger ",
  • 20:02 the person who was living in Israel from outside the land
  • 20:06 and of course, obedient to the law of the land, the Law of Torah.
  • 20:10 I hope this has been helpful.
  • 20:11 There really are a lot of questions,
  • 20:13 more than we can discuss in a few minutes.
  • 20:15 But that's just a hint of what we trust will clarify these issues
  • 20:20 so that we might walk together in harmony.
  • 20:25 Thank you so much Eitan.
  • 20:26 We are back with Dr. Seif.
  • 20:28 And we are loving this wonderful series
  • 20:31 and your wisdom of what we've been talking about.
  • 20:34 It's been great.
  • 20:36 The wisdom's a little over rated I think.
  • 20:38 But I'm glad to be with you guys.
  • 20:39 We don't think so.
  • 20:40 We're excited.
  • 20:41 We've had a subject that we've been talking about in our car.
  • 20:44 Just about every time we get in our car we talk about this,
  • 20:47 or when we are on our couch.
  • 20:49 So why don't you...
  • 20:50 For hours.
  • 20:51 For hours at home we talked about this.
  • 20:54 And your husband couldn't answer it sweetie.
  • 20:56 I'll do it in 30 seconds.
  • 20:59 As Gentiles, we're kind of talking about
  • 21:02 the differences between Gentiles and the Jewish people,
  • 21:05 what is commanded of both,
  • 21:07 what we have to do, don't have to do.
  • 21:09 All of that.
  • 21:11 There's so much!
  • 21:12 As Gentiles, and we're Gentiles,
  • 21:14 in the Law or in the New Testament should we say,
  • 21:18 what are we supposed to follow?
  • 21:20 I think Paul was really clear to draw the line.
  • 21:23 He didn't want to throw a Jewish Rule Book at people and
  • 21:26 Paul was very liberal,
  • 21:29 So much so that he invoked the ire of some contemporaries
  • 21:32 because he believed that God was doing something new.
  • 21:35 Now there is a case for example
  • 21:37 in the 15th Chapter of Acts where there
  • 21:39 were a few things that were passed on.
  • 21:41 Some were evident.
  • 21:43 You know...You don't want to be immoral,
  • 21:45 you don't want to worship idols.
  • 21:47 But you don't want to eat food strangled is noted therein.
  • 21:50 It is!
  • 21:51 And we've honestly discussed that a lot
  • 21:53 How does that apply to us in 2017?
  • 21:56 It's imperative that in the Jewish world
  • 21:59 when you eat meat you have to kill swiftly to be kind to the animal.
  • 22:04 There's a kind of kindness at play there.
  • 22:06 I'm gonna....some just gasping away and dying a few minutes later.
  • 22:11 It's got to be a quick cut.
  • 22:12 That even with the eating meat there's a kind of ethics.
  • 22:17 Jews in the Hebrew Bible are beckoned
  • 22:19 to be kind toward other human beings.
  • 22:22 But not only other human beings but all sentient creatures.
  • 22:25 And animals have feelings too.
  • 22:28 I agree.
  • 22:29 But - so in 2017 how do we know...
  • 22:33 And I'm not trying to harp on this but
  • 22:36 we're trying to be observant and
  • 22:39 Follow
  • 22:40 Follow what we should or shouldn't do.
  • 22:41 Well back up.
  • 22:42 There's a moral lesson here
  • 22:44 rather than there is, you know
  • 22:45 how you prepare food in your kitchen.
  • 22:47 By the way, we don't kill our food anymore.
  • 22:49 We go and we get killer deals at the supermarket.
  • 22:51 We live in a different world.
  • 22:54 But if someone is in the meat production business
  • 22:57 they should hear this
  • 22:59 and be more ethical in the way that animals are killed.
  • 23:03 It's very important in the Jewish world
  • 23:05 a shovket , a "slaughterer" of animals, you have to
  • 23:09 kill them as swiftly and painlessly as possible.
  • 23:11 Not take life away from them over a
  • 23:14 few minute period of time by strangling it out.
  • 23:17 It's not the way it's done.
  • 23:18 But the point is it's more than meat.
  • 23:21 The point is the observant person is predisposed then
  • 23:27 to be kindly disposed toward life.
  • 23:30 And that will have applications
  • 23:32 ethically beyond the dinner table.
  • 23:35 I'm going to throw one out.
  • 23:36 We've been talking about, real quick,
  • 23:38 the Ten Commandments,
  • 23:40 is that just for the Jewish people?
  • 23:43 Is it for the Gentiles?
  • 23:45 Well, if you look at the Ten Commandments
  • 23:48 A lot of that is ethical.
  • 23:49 Don't steal, commit adultery.
  • 23:52 What do you want to...
  • 23:54 So much of that, it's ethical foundation.
  • 23:58 What do you want to give back to that?
  • 24:00 That you should just live by.
  • 24:02 Who would want to argue the case?
  • 24:04 "No forget it, adultery is fine."
  • 24:05 That this is just common sense stuff.
  • 24:07 It's so common it shouldn't be articulated.
  • 24:09 It shouldn't even need to be but sin is what it is
  • 24:12 and you need to spell it out for people.
  • 24:15 I am not all about wanting to press
  • 24:17 individuals of non-Jewish extract into a Jewish mold.
  • 24:20 I'm wanting to learn the principles from it.
  • 24:23 We have so much to learn don't we?
