  • 00:46 I'm Myles Weiss.
  • 00:47 And I'm Katharine Weiss.
  • 00:48 And we have a new, good friend,
  • 00:50 Hormoz Shiriat.
  • 00:52 Dr. Shiriat... He's been called by Joel Rosenberg "the Billy Graham of Iran".
  • 00:56 He preaches the Gospel into Iran daily
  • 01:00 and people are getting saved by the thousands.
  • 01:02 The testimony of what is going on in Iran will absolutely shock you and amaze you.
  • 01:07 The reality is very different from what we see in the headlines
  • 01:11 and what we hear about the government of Iran verses the people of Iran.
  • 01:16 It's a wonderful story.
  • 01:17 And we want to bring it to you without any further ado.
  • 01:20 Let's go to my interview with Dr. Shiriat.
  • 01:24 Dr. Shiriat thank you for being here.
  • 01:26 Thank you Myles for inviting me.
  • 01:28 We are just thrilled to have you here
  • 01:30 because I don't think our viewers
  • 01:31 are really up to speed
  • 01:33 with the growth of the church in Iran
  • 01:36 and the incredible testimonies that are coming out of there.
  • 01:38 Before we even get to that
  • 01:39 gives a little bit about your background.
  • 01:41 How did you come to be doing what you're doing now?
  • 01:43 Well I was born in Iran as a Muslim.
  • 01:46 I was pretty much devout until my teenage years.
  • 01:48 That's when I said, I'm going to focus on science.
  • 01:51 These repeating these things don't add anything to my life.
  • 01:54 But then I came to the U.S. for graduate studies
  • 01:58 I started asking, maybe there is God and if there is God it must be in Islam.
  • 02:03 Look at what Islam has done.
  • 02:06 It has defeated super power U.S.A. and kicked out Chau and taking over the world.
  • 02:10 So I got a Koran and looked at it one more time carefully, objectively.
  • 02:16 And once I finished I said still, where is God?
  • 02:19 He's so far away and I'm not changed, I don't have peace.
  • 02:22 I don't have joy.
  • 02:23 My relationship with my spouse, my wife has not changed.
  • 02:26 So maybe I should read the Bible.
  • 02:29 If they say God has written several books, I should read the other one.
  • 02:32 I an open minded scientist I thought.
  • 02:35 So I started reading the Bible and read Genesis; jumped to Matthew.
  • 02:40 And I was planning to read the whole Bible in three days.
  • 02:44 I didn't think I'm going to find anything new in it.
  • 02:46 But three months later I was in Matthew, chapter 5 and 6,
  • 02:50 struggling at every verse.
  • 02:52 Who is this Jesus?
  • 02:54 He's not a prophet...
  • 02:55 because Islam says he's a prophet.
  • 02:58 He doesn't match the profile of a prophet.
  • 03:02 So after months of struggling and complicating things...
  • 03:05 I think that's what scientists do,
  • 03:09 we make simple things complicated.
  • 03:11 So after months of struggling with the truth I realize it's so simple.
  • 03:15 God loves you.
  • 03:17 You're a sinner, you cannot reach him
  • 03:19 but he loves you he reached out to you.
  • 03:22 Simple...even a child.
  • 03:24 So instead of the works based mentality of trying to find my way to God,
  • 03:28 you realized grace had come to you.
  • 03:30 Grace...and love.
  • 03:32 Love is non-existent in Islam.
  • 03:34 And a God of love reaching out to me...
  • 03:36 In all religions you have to reach out to God and find him.
  • 03:40 So that simple message changed my life supernaturally
  • 03:45 so much that I felt that if I don't share this message with others I am selfish.
  • 03:51 So I started sharing the Gospel with Muslims.
  • 03:53 And sharing it and continue to share it.
  • 03:55 In fact, I think it was around 2001
  • 03:57 you began a satellite television ministry.
  • 03:59 Right, started evangelism, church planting and planted
  • 04:03 several churches in northern California.
  • 04:05 And around September 11 I said, let's go satellite into Iran and share this message.
  • 04:11 And from day one we saw so many people come to Christ,
  • 04:14 so many phone calls and people are hungry that confirm,
  • 04:18 that Iran is ready for Jesus.
  • 04:20 I think not many people know that.
  • 04:22 I think that's exactly the case.
  • 04:24 We hear all the controversy,
  • 04:26 government to government
  • 04:27 or Israel to Iran.
  • 04:29 But we don't hear that there's this movement taking place.
  • 04:32 Especially the young people.
  • 04:34 Because two-thirds of the country is under 30 years old.
  • 04:36 That's right
  • 04:37 Many young people, these are the second generation of Islam
  • 04:44 how we say...rejecters.
  • 04:46 Let me put it that way.
  • 04:47 Because rejection of Islam in Iran is wide and deep.
  • 04:51 It's historical.
  • 04:52 Islam has never experienced such a defeat it's history
  • 04:56 that a nation will reject it.
  • 04:58 Most people don't know.
  • 04:59 Thirty-five years of Islamic rule,
  • 05:01 Iran is the only country led by clerics,
  • 05:03 and that for thirty-five years.
  • 05:05 So they implemented Islam in Iran.
  • 05:07 So people in the first few years say,
  • 05:10 Oh, there's nothing wrong with Islam, it's just our government that's implementing it wrong.
  • 05:13 That was twenty years ago.
  • 05:16 Now they're saying, no the government did implement Islam right.
  • 05:20 So the problem is not with the government,
  • 05:22 there is a major problem with Islam itself.
  • 05:26 And they're looking at it objectively...
  • 05:28 by millions... they're done with Islam.
  • 05:30 So the young people you are talking about, they have no trace of Islam.
  • 05:34 I talked to them.
  • 05:35 They have no question.
  • 05:36 They don't have questions.
  • 05:37 The parents used to question me, so what do I do with Mohammed,
  • 05:40 what do I do with the Quran?
  • 05:42 These young people don't have that question.
  • 05:43 They say, I was watching your program and something in me said I need Jesus; I'm ready.
  • 05:48 It's that simple.
  • 05:49 That simple.
  • 05:51 The supernatural and direct encounter
  • 05:54 with Jesus through your television program.
  • 05:56 That's right.
  • 05:57 Of course Jesus is doing his part.
  • 05:58 We lack behind him.
  • 06:00 I mean, he's telling us
  • 06:01 hey guys, I love them so much
  • 06:03 I'm appearing to them.
  • 06:05 I love them, I want them to be saved,
  • 06:07 and come and join me.
  • 06:09 These days I feel the LORD is running a special for Muslims.
  • 06:12 He's appearing to them.
  • 06:14 And these days if you want to see Jesus it looks like you gotta be a Muslim.
  • 06:18 Because he loves them, Okay?
  • 06:20 So many supernatural...
  • 06:22 It's supernatural...
  • 06:23 for them it's natural.
  • 06:25 Jesus is doing it.
  • 06:26 And he's telling us, come and join me.
  • 06:29 He's ready to transform Iran and the Middle East through Iran.
  • 06:33 That's what I believe.
  • 06:34 That's amazing.
  • 06:35 And that's important too.
  • 06:37 I think we have a DVD of one of the testimonies out of your ministry.
  • 06:40 I think we'll take a look at that right now and then we'll continue.
  • 06:43 That's a good idea.
  • 12:42 Wasn't that amazing?
  • 12:44 This is just one of the many testimonies

  • 13:09 Over the last few years that we've been on the air

  • 13:46 It's overwhelming.
  • 13:48 I think there's follow-up to that too.
  • 13:49 What's happened since then?
  • 13:51 Well she got married with a young man.
  • 13:54 And with her mom they are leading one of the largest,
  • 14:01 if not the largest underground church networks in Iran.
  • 14:03 That's amazing.
  • 14:05 I talked to her mom and after several years she is still free from MS and running like youth!
  • 14:14 And city to city to plant churches.
  • 14:16 God has restored the years that the locust has eaten.
  • 14:19 And now they're sharing just as you said
  • 14:22 it would be selfish of me to hold it back.
  • 14:24 They can't hold back.
  • 14:25 They've got to tell others.
  • 14:27 It's a phenomenon I don't think many of our people understand.
  • 14:30 Iran is 98% Muslim.
  • 14:33 Is that not correct?
  • 14:34 That's correct.
  • 14:35 But changing rapidly.
  • 14:36 It is changing rapidly.
  • 14:38 It's not just I say.
  • 14:40 Operation...
  • 14:41 well manual...it's a manual.
  • 14:43 Most mission pastors have it.
  • 14:45 They do research in every country in the world.
  • 14:47 They have this manual.
  • 14:48 It talks about the political system, the spiritual, the economy, everything.
  • 14:52 In their latest edition they have put Iran
  • 14:56 as the fastest growing evangelical population in the world - 19.6%.
  • 15:01 And number 2 is Afghanistan
  • 15:03 and number 10 is Tajikistan.
  • 15:05 They're all part of the Persian rule.
  • 15:07 Some people know Iran as Iran
  • 15:08 but it's Persia and it covers more than Iran.
  • 15:11 It covers Afghanistan, Tajikistan.
  • 15:14 And so the LORD's promise I believe personally, not just for Iran,
  • 15:18 is for the whole Persian empire.
  • 15:21 It's so important
  • 15:22 because I don't think most people understand that.
  • 15:24 The name "Iran" only came into existence in 1935.
  • 15:27 Before that it was Greater Persia
  • 15:29 It's a huge swath of land
  • 15:31 and even more ancient name Elam.
  • 15:33 Is that correct?
  • 15:34 Elam was a part of Persia.
  • 15:36 Part of Persia.
  • 15:37 That's right - part of Persia.
  • 15:38 Like book of Acts Chapter 2 for example.
  • 15:41 Some of the first Christians in Jerusalem who heard the Gospel were Persians.
  • 15:46 You read the list of all the people groups were there.
  • 15:50 Number one was Persians.
  • 15:51 Parthians, Medes, Elamites...
  • 15:53 All 3 groups are parts of Iran.
  • 15:55 So the Apostle spoke Farsi!
  • 15:58 on the day of Pentecost.
  • 16:00 And the spread of the Gospel continue.
  • 16:03 These amazing stories like we just saw.
  • 16:06 And what about for your TV programs?
  • 16:08 Tell us how that works.
  • 16:09 Are you in Iran every evening?
  • 16:11 How does that work right now?
  • 16:13 Its' a 24/7 broadcast.
  • 16:15 And it's amazing.
  • 16:16 Here is a country ready for Jesus.
  • 16:18 The government is in control.
  • 16:20 The phones are in control.
  • 16:22 The media is in control.
  • 16:23 Internet's in control.
  • 16:25 So we go through satellite television.
  • 16:28 It's not local television.
  • 16:29 We go over the heads of the Mullahs.
  • 16:31 They don't like it - tough.
  • 16:33 And we go into people's homes
  • 16:35 and we tell them about the love of Jesus and they are hungry.
  • 16:38 If you ask a typical Iranian today, Muslim Iranian,
  • 16:42 who do you think God is?
  • 16:43 This is what you generally hear,
  • 16:45 I don't believe in God that they tell us.
  • 16:48 I don't believe God is cruel and violent and wants us to kill each other.
  • 16:53 So what kind of God do you believe?
  • 16:54 I believe God is a God of love who loves us and asks us to love one another,
  • 16:58 who forgives and asks us to forgive one another.
  • 17:01 So the seed of the Gospel is already in their heart.
  • 17:04 So when they hear and watch our television program some think...
  • 17:08 and the Holy Spirit says, this, this is what I have given you.
  • 17:11 Many of them call us and say, Oh, I want Jesus because
  • 17:13 all my life I believed what you just said about God.
  • 17:17 I don't think people understand
  • 17:18 the love that Iranian Christians have
  • 17:21 for the Jews and the nation of Israel.
  • 17:24 Could you tell a little bit about that?
  • 17:25 When you come to Christ and you read your Bible
  • 17:29 that's easy to start loving the Jews.
  • 17:32 But there's many factors.
  • 17:35 People who come to Christ of course their heart is changed
  • 17:37 because they receive God's heart.
  • 17:39 And I've seen Iranian Christians love the Jews and Israel.
  • 17:43 And they realize God's plan for them.
  • 17:45 Just a couple of years ago some of the Iranian Christians inside Iran - underground Church
  • 17:50 they collected an offering for the Jewish Christians in America
  • 17:57 They sent it to me and said,
  • 17:58 there is a church there in Houston.
  • 18:00 Would you give this to them?
  • 18:01 These are Jewish congregation - Christian congregation.
  • 18:03 So there is a deep love.
  • 18:05 But also Muslims in Iran are being set free from that hatred.
  • 18:10 The more the government of Iran says, "Death to Israel, death to Israel, death to America"...
  • 18:14 Because there is such a disconnect and distrust
  • 18:16 between the Government and the people.
  • 18:18 So people are saying, tell me again, why should I hate Israel?
  • 18:22 They're questioning that.
  • 18:24 So it's not only in American where we listen for that sound,
  • 18:27 I'm from the government and I'm here to help you.
  • 18:29 When you hear that sound you know it's time to be cautious.
  • 18:32 And same in Iran.
  • 18:33 They're understanding that the fomenting
  • 18:36 of that hatred is not the heart of God
  • 18:39 and it's a misrepresentation of the people
  • 18:42 where God intends us to be brothers.
  • 18:45 I believe the past of Iran and Israel is tied together.
  • 18:50 You see that in the Bible.
  • 18:51 And the future we are tied together.
  • 18:53 So we are moving in one direction
  • 18:56 of Iran and Israel being ruled by the same LORD.

  • 19:59 What's the current role you see ISIS playing in the Middle East
  • 20:02 and how that affects your work in the Gospel?
  • 20:05 Well ISIS is a Sunni version of the Iranian government.
  • 20:10 As a Shiite they believe Mahdi, they're in different sects.
  • 20:14 And Sunnis believe they're a caliphate,
  • 20:17 their leader's going to take over the world.
  • 20:19 They're very similar in end time theology
  • 20:22 but two different ways to get there.
  • 20:24 The Shiites believe in Mahdi, their messiah will come back.
  • 20:27 And Sunnis believe that they should take over the world with their own leadership.
  • 20:31 If you compare what ISIS does with the Quran
  • 20:35 you come to the conclusion they are true Muslims because they're
  • 20:39 following the verses of the Quran more closely than others
  • 20:42 and the example of Mohammad.
  • 20:44 Now what ISIS is doing it's hard to say
  • 20:48 but it's good for the kingdom
  • 20:49 even though there is such suffering.
  • 20:51 Many are coming.
  • 20:52 Many Muslims are questioning Islam, just like Iran.
  • 20:56 The government of Iran is so brutal and people say, is this true Islam or not?
  • 20:59 So many Sunnis, they look at ISIS...
  • 21:03 They claim to be true Muslims, are they or not?
  • 21:06 And they look at the Quran and they realize, oh my gosh, they are following the Quran.
  • 21:11 So there's something wrong with my faith,
  • 21:12 I'm open, let me look.
  • 21:14 So ISIS is helping Muslims come to Christ.
  • 21:20 Because of the controversy that it creates within Islam.
  • 21:23 That's right.
  • 21:24 And because they see the true face of Islam.
  • 21:27 And they see...
  • 21:28 I really don't believe that America, even our viewers,
  • 21:31 some of them don't understand
  • 21:33 that the orthodoxy of the Quran
  • 21:36 requires this kind of violence,
  • 21:39 this kind of world domination.
  • 21:41 It's not an aberrant sect.
  • 21:43 It's there in the book.
  • 21:44 It is there,
  • 21:45 how serious do you take it?
  • 21:48 So short term there will be
  • 21:51 more conflict in the area.
  • 21:53 the conflict stirs up people's hunger for God.
  • 21:55 You're there and others are there to preach the Gospel.
  • 21:57 the underground church is growing.
  • 21:59 I noticed your not asking me to disguise you.
  • 22:02 Are you not afraid?
  • 22:03 No.
  • 22:04 Well I have a public ministry in the west.
  • 22:06 I'm on television.
  • 22:07 The government is after me.
  • 22:09 I get life threats all the time.
  • 22:11 But when I compare the little danger that I face in America;
  • 22:14 because the government of Iran has a history
  • 22:17 of killing its opponents even in America.
  • 22:20 But when I compare my life
  • 22:23 and the threat in my life
  • 22:24 with those young people
  • 22:26 who are ready to live and die for Jesus daily,
  • 22:28 I say, they are my heroes.
  • 22:30 So they have come to a point
  • 22:32 that they are ready to live and die for Jesus.
  • 22:34 I want to share a conviction here.
  • 22:36 I believe Iran will be a Christian country
  • 22:38 according to the Bible.
  • 22:40 But also I believe Iran will be a great blessing to Israel.
  • 22:43 When I look at Romans 11:11
  • 22:45 that the nations will bring Israel to jealousy
  • 22:50 I believe that starts with Iran.
  • 22:52 The Jews in Israel they will look and say,
  • 22:55 oh they say death to Israel just a few months ago
  • 22:58 and they're loving us and blessing us!
  • 23:01 They're changed!
  • 23:02 I think that's what the start of the provoke...
  • 23:04 I absolutely agree with that.
  • 23:06 I think we see a prophetic picture then in Genesis 33
  • 23:10 when Jacob says to Esau,
  • 23:12 I looked upon you as if I have seen the face of God.
  • 23:14 Because something happened to Jacob.
  • 23:16 He was changed in Genesis 32.
  • 23:19 But something must have happened to Esau
  • 23:20 because he had a touch with God.
  • 23:22 And when the Jews sees a Muslim
  • 23:24 who has turned to God
  • 23:25 and it full of life and full of love
  • 23:27 it's undoing...
  • 23:28 we don't know what to do with that.
  • 23:30 That's beautiful.
  • 23:31 Here is a historical opportunity Myles.
  • 23:34 Iran is ready for Christ.
  • 23:36 Most people don't know
  • 23:38 and even fewer people are involved.
  • 23:40 And if we work together
  • 23:42 we will see Iran transformed
  • 23:44 and through Iran even Israel will be blessed.
  • 23:46 And the whole Middle East will be blessed.

  • 25:31 But I want to encourage you, God is at work.
  • 25:33 Don't just listen to this news.
  • 25:35 Don't just depend on that.
  • 25:37 God cares about 1.6 billion people

  • 25:42 He died for all.
  • 25:44 And the world doesn't know...
  • 25:45 What do we do with ISIS?
  • 25:47 God knows what to do with ISIS.
  • 25:49 God has an answer to Muslims.
  • 25:51 You just need to partner with Him.
  • 25:52 He is going to transform Iran.
  • 25:54 I want to ask you, pray for Israel
  • 25:56 but also pray for Iran.
  • 25:58 Both will be ruled by the same LORD very soon.
  • 26:01 And I ask you to love Muslims.
  • 26:05 Because if you're afraid of them and you don't like them,
  • 26:09 both of them is out of God's will.
  • 26:11 Love them.
  • 26:13 Share the Gospel.
  • 26:14 They're many of them desperate.
  • 26:16 They're not all fanatics.
  • 26:18 They're desperate.
  • 26:19 They're the captives saying, Is there a Savior?
  • 26:21 We are born into this slavery
  • 26:23 and we want to get out and we can't.
  • 26:25 Would you change your heart towards Muslims?
  • 26:28 Would you change your mind towards Muslims?
  • 26:30 And would you join God in transforming the Middle East for the LORD?
  • 26:35 Starting from Iran...
  • 26:36 Iran will be the first Islamic country that will be Christian.
  • 26:40 I pray that you would.

  • 27:10 beyond the veil, the iron veil, that God Himself is appearing.
  • 27:15 That's really true.
